Collosum is dedicated to exploring the intricacies of the mind, by combining historical thought with modern insights across philosophy, science, & artificial intelligence.

What is Collosum?

Collosum is a one-person publishing project focused on the mind and brain. We began our journey in 2025 with the release of Free Will, a book that wrestles with just how free we really are. This is to be followed by books on consciousness, morality, rationality, knowledge, perception, and more.

Collosum is more than books, it’s an evolving platform, one that will expand to include articles and newsletters on new research in cognitive science, courses and learning tools designed to sharpen thinking, and other projects yet to be determined. Throughout this process we aim to make big ideas about how we think, perceive, and act accessible and engaging to modern audiences.

Who is Collosum?

Collosum is run by Sam Brinson, a Kiwi writer based in the land of haggis and whisky.

His work explores psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and AI. All directed towards understanding how the mind works, and how we can make them better.

He’s also the author of Connecting the Dots, a guide to learning how to learn. And when he’s not writing, he runs Woofy, a pet sitting and dog training service.

Why “Collosum”?

The name comes from the corpus callosum—the bundle of fibers connecting the two halves of the brain. But it also gestures toward the word colossal—because the ideas we explore are big ones: about thought, meaning, knowledge, and what it means to be human.
